John Robert Harrison Sr.

FALL RIVER – John Robert Harrison, Sr., 74, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, in St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River after a long illness. He was the husband of Carolyn E. (Duncan) Harrison of North Dartmouth.

Born in Madisonville, Kentucky, the son of the late Paul Ray Harrison and the late Minnie May (Reider) Harrison, he grew up in Tennessee and lived in Fairhaven until his illness ten years ago.

Mr. Harrison served in the U.S. Coast Guard for eleven years and later worked for Bouchard Transportation for thirty years. He traveled extensively around the world. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Fairhaven. He enjoyed his family and spending time with his children, tinkering and fixing things.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Joseph Couture and his companion Kimberly, and John Robert Harrison, Jr., and his wife Janet, all of Fairhaven, and Paul Raye Harrison and his companion Rebecca Moniz of New Bedford; two daughters, Dawn Howell and her husband Joe of Cape Coral, FL, and Kelly A. Machado and her companion Curtis Swallow of Fairhaven; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Harrison was the father of the late Anthony Lee Harrison and the brother of the late Jack Ray Harrison and Betty Harrison.

Calling hours will be held Monday, April 28, 2008, from 4:00-7:00PM in THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, with a funeral service at 6:00PM. Cremation will follow and a graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts Nation Cemetery in Bourne at a time to be announced.
