FALL RIVER – Augustin F. “Gus” Flanagan, 80, of Fall River, passed away Friday, August 1, 2008, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in St. Albans, VT, the son of the late Augustine F. and Helen (Ivers) Flanagan, he was the husband of Doris (Bishop) Flanagan, to whom he was married fifty-eight years. A graduate with the Class of 1944 of Concord High School, he proudly served his country during WWII with the United States Army, and was stationed at the Fort McClellan Army Base. He also received his pilots license and enjoyed many solo flights throughout New England. He worked as a salesman in the printing industry for thirty-five years, retiring in 1995. Mr. Flanagan enjoyed all types of fishing and sailing. Above all, his most memorable time was spent with family and friends, fishing on Moosehead Lake, Maine, or sailing in Newport Harbor. His six grandchildren brought him much joy and provided him a lifetime of happiness. In addition to his greatly beloved wife, Mr. Flanagan leaves a daughter, Kathryn F. Park, of Taunton, MA; four sons, Michael F. Flanagan, of Oreland, PA, Joseph P. Flanagan, of Old Saybrook, CT, and John L. Flanagan and Mark D. Flanagan, both of Fall River, and the late James L. Flanagan; three sisters, Charlene F. Lage, of San Leandro, CA, Helen F. Swasey, of Wolfboro, NH, and Mary Ellen F. Morse, of Stratham, NH; one brother, Donald P. Flanagan, of Shrewsbury, MA; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Arthur D. Flanagan, Louis G. Flanagan and Robert M. Flanagan. Funeral InformationHis funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at 9:00AM from the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. (Burial will be private.) Calling hours will be held Tuesday, August 5, from 4:00 – 7:00PM in the funeral home.
