TAUNTON - Marjorie E. (Horton) Gowan, 91, died Friday, May 8, 2009, in Tufts Medical Center, Boston. Born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Francis) Horton, she was the widow of George Gowan.
Mrs. Gowan was educated in the Taunton Public Schools and was a longtime member of the West Church. She was employed for many years as a packer for Swanks in both Attleboro and Taunton. Marjorie enjoyed doing needle work and was well known for making Christmas stockings by hand and decorating them for her family and her friends' children. She likewise enjoyed caning chairs and at one time was a 4H Leader in Westville. She was a member of the Old Colony Historical Society and with her late sister, Dursilla Horton, she enjoyed studying and tracing geneology.
She was the stepmother of the late Marion Preston, Helen Howes and James Gowan. She was the aunt of Priscilla Yetter of Greenfield and Roland Horton of Munson. She is also survived by her closest friends, Laura Jean and John Nichols of East Taunton, and several grand-nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service in Westville Cemetery, Taunton, Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 11:00AM.
