SOMERSET–Fintan Farrelly, 69, passed away Monday September 17, 2007 at his residence surrounded and embraced by his loving family after a fifteen month battle with cancer. Fintan died, as he lived, with the dignity, strength, and a strong belief in God. He was the husband of forty four years to Sheila (Dwyer) Farrelly. They celebrated their anniversary two days prior to Fintan’s passing. Fintan was born and educated in Dublin, Ireland. He was the son of the late Patrick and Kathleen (McAdoo) Farrelly. Mr. Farrelly then came to the United States and served his country for four years with the United States Navy. Fintan has resided in Somerset for the past forty years. Mr. Farrelly worked as a stationary engineer for New England Power Company at the Brayton Point station in Somerset for thirty four years before retiring as a first class engineer in 1999. He also taught at the MA/RI School of Boiler Operators for several years. Fintan recently held a part time engineering position at Charlton Memorial Hospital, and also volunteered with Hospice Outreach. He was an avid gardner, camper, and truly loved being outdoors with family and friends in Ossippe, NH. His favorite hobby was making models of Irish thatched roof cottages at his work bench. He was a member of the Clover Club, Tin Can Sailors, and the Romeo breakfast club. Survivors beside his wife of forty four years are three daughters, Ann Marie Arruda and her husband Ronald of Swansea, Kathleen D. Souza and her husband Edward of Somerset, Christine L. Medeiros and her husband Ricardo of Somerset, three sons Patrick F. Farrelly of Seattle, Michael J. Farrelly and his wife Colleen of Dighton, Sean B. Farrelly of Somerset, a sister Maeve Kelly and her husband Patrick of Ireland a brother Owen Farrelly and his wife Cora of England. He is also survived by eleven loving grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Angela Medeiros.

Funeral Information

CALLING HOURS with VIDEO PHOTO ALBUM will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm. His funeral services will be held on Friday at 9am from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUENRALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10am in Saint Thomas More Church 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow with MILITARY HONORS in Saint Patrick Cemetery Somerset.
