Tyler Michael Almquist, 16 years old, died at Floating Hospital for Children/Tufts New England Medical Center, Boston on December 23, 2005 after a long illness. Born in Stoughton he was the son of Donna (Cobb) Almquist of Dighton and Ross Almquist of Bridgewater and brother of Jenna Almquist of Dighton.

He was a sophomore at Dighton Rehoboth High School. In June of 2004 Ty was awarded a presentation from Dighton Middle School for “Fantastic Determination” for his great attitude. In May of 2004 he was made a “ Honoray Submariner” on the USS Albuqureque (SSN 706) and proclaimed a true and loyal son of the “Wearers of the Dolphins” by Commanding Officer S. B. Munsh and the officers and crew of the HS Nautalis (SSN 571). He was made an honoray member of the Rumford,ME, Mexico,ME and Peru,ME Fire Departments. During his illness he received many calls and cards from his NASCAR and Busch racing boards on line at Racing One. Ward Burton and Kim Crosby honored him with phone calls and Kim put his name on her racing car during a race He enjoyed playing pool, being in the kitchen making chili, playing Nintendo and being with his special friends, Dave, Jay, Chet, Jeff, Sarah, Laura and Jocelyn. He attended the New Testament Baptist Church in Norton and was very active in the youth groups. He enjoyed attending Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford,CT. which in run by Paul Newman. He also attended Camp Carole and Dream Day Camp on Cape Cod and the Monadnock Bible Camp in NH. He enjoyed “fly tying” with his “Grampie Bob Glass”

He is also survived by his grandmothers, Sheila Almquist of West Bridgewater and Teddi Allen of FL and an adoptive grandmother Aileen Stone of Bridgewater and several aunts, uncles and cousins

Funeral Information

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at 10AM in the New Testament Baptist Church, Route 140,Norton. Interment Dighton Unitarian Church Cemetery, Dighton. Visiting hours will be on Friday, December 30, 2005 from 4-8 in the New Testament Baptist Church.
