Richard S. Wagle, 87, of Tyler St., Attleboro, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of 63 years of Adele E. (Frenier) Wagle, to whom he was married on March 6, 1943.

Born on November 16, 1918, in Bridgeport, Conn., he was a son of the late Sewell and Dorcas W. (Fuller) Wagle. He was raised in Tenants Harbor, Maine and came to Attleboro with his family in 1930. He remained a lifelong resident of Attleboro.

His mother Dorcas Wagle, and her sister Laura Kiff, operated a Ladies Dress and Specialty Shoppe, the Laura Shoppe, in downtown Attleboro for 48 years, until 1978. Richard was affiliated with the Shoppe for 29 years. Prior to that he was employed as a toolmaker in Attleboro the former LG Balfour Company and Swanks and Spence Thermostats. He retired in 1985.

During WWII, Mr. Wagle served as a home front worker when he was employed at the General Electric Munitions Plant in Lynn.

He was a member of the Attleboro Chapter 952 of the American Association of Retired Persons. He was a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church.
He enjoyed square dancing for over 40 years, camping, and golf. He was an avid HO model railroader his entire adult life.

He enjoyed times spent with his family during summer vacation in his beloved boyhood town of Tenants Harbor, Maine. He took special pride in being a 12th generation descendant of Mayflower passengers, from both the John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley family and the Edward and Ann Fuller family.

Richard will most be remembered as being a devoted son, and loving husband and father. He especially cherished times spend with his children and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, David S. Wagle, and his wife Barbara, of Attleboro, Peter R. Wagle, of Attleboro, and Richard H. Wagle, and his wife Jennifer, of Hudson Oaks, Texas, three daughters, Suzanne A. Cote, of St. Petersburg, Florida, Adele L. Gockenbach, and her husband Richard, of Lake Park, Florida, and Dorothy A. Lovely, and her husband Robert, of South Yarmouth, MA. Twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews on Mrs. Wagle side of the family.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial Friday, December 9, 2005 at 10:00 am in St. Stephen's Church, South Main St., Rte. 152, Attleboro. Burial will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery. Following committal services an invitation will be extended to join with the family for a time of refreshment and fellowship. Calling hours have been respectfully omitted.
