Anna (Roderiques) Mello, 97, of New Bedford, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017 at home after a long illness, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Joseph M. Mello, Sr.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antone and Clementina (Amaral) Roderiques, she was a lifelong resident of the city and communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Anna was a seamstress and retired from Cliftex after 27 years as a supervisor in 1990. She and her husband were members of the Moose Lodge, St. Mary’s Golden Ager’s in Fairhaven and the Goodyear Seniors. She enjoyed BINGO and the company of her cat Autumn.
She is survived by a son, Robert Mello and his wife Gussie of Acushnet; a daughter in law, Maria Mello of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Joseph M. Mello III of New Bedford, Jeffrey Mello and his wife Amber of Westport, Lyn Mello of Lynn and Allan Mello of Acushnet; a great granddaughter, Amanda Mello and her spouse, Brittany Caneira and their daughter, Sky Anna Sanchez as well as 10 other grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Anna was the mother of the late Joseph A. Mello and sister of the late Joaquin Roderiques and Victoria Neagus.
In accordance with her wishes she was cremated and calling hours are Wednesday, April 26, 2017, from 9-11am, in the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford with a service at 11am.
Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
