View Tribute and Sign Guestbook WAREHAM – Elsie (Coelho) Jacobsen, 86, of Fairhaven, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham. She was the wife of the late Jacob Jacobsen. Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late John and the late Lenora (Silvia) Coelho, she was a lifelong resident of the town, a graduate of Fairhaven High School and a member of the First Congregational Church of Fairhaven.
Elsie served as a Navy WAVE during WWII and attended Hunter College in New York and later Oklahoma A&M while in the service. She sang in the Navy Choir at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Mrs. Jacobsen enjoyed many years of service as the Assistant to the Director of the YWCA in New Bedford. She was a loving wife and mother, an avid seamstress, knitter, airplane pilot, sports enthusiast as well as a church and community leader. She will be greatly missed by the lives of all whom she touched.
She is survived by a son, Jacob Jacobsen of Fairhaven; two daughters, Joyce E. Jacobsen of Wareham and Susan Nadeau and her husband John of West Newbury, MA; three grandchildren, Portia DePina and Andrew and Adam Nadeau; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jacobsen was the youngest of five children.
Funeral Information
Her calling hours will be Friday, March 12, 2010, from 4:00-7:00 PM in THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 9:00 AM in the First Congregational Church of Fairhaven, 34 Center St., Fairhaven, followed by interment in River-Side Cemetery, Fairhaven.
