SOMERSET – Raymond A. Gadbois, 77, of Somerset, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, surrounded by his family at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in New Bedford, MA, the son of the late Theodore and Diana (LaPlante) Gadbois, he was the beloved husband of Marcelle (Jolivet) Gadbois, with whom he shared fifty-six years of marriage.

A graduate of Saint Anthony High School in New Bedford, Raymond served his country during the Korean War with the United States Navy, stationed in Japan, earning the Korean Service and the United Nations Service Ribbons as well as the Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, Mr. Gadbois worked as an insurance salesman for the Metropolitan Insurance Company. He subsequently established his own company, Alternate Insurance Concepts, an independent insurance agency which he owned for several years.

Raymond was a communicant of Saint Louis de France Church in Swansea. He was also a past member of Club Richelieu and a current member of the Franco-American Civic league, a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, Saint Anne Court #604. He was a faithful fan at every theatre production and ball game played by his fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was much loved by them all, and his presence and encouragement will be deeply missed.

In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Radbois leaves three daughters, Michelle D. Baker and her husband Kenneth of East Freetown, MA, Jacqueline A. Mulready and her husband Neil of Somerset, and Diana L. Omar and her husband Richard of Raynham, MA; a son, Marcel A. Gadbois and his wife Linda of Swansea, MA; two sisters, Alice Antonios of Lebanon, CT, and Jeannette Nickols of San Antonio, FL; fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; an aunt, Doris Cournoyer of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Daniel T. Gadbois and the brother of the late Marguerite Harding.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 9:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Saint Louis de France Church, 56 Buffinton St., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial with full military honours will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery Fall River.
