View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Shirley M. Gifford, 77, of Fairhaven died Wednesday, May 24, 2006 in St. Luke's Hospital, New Bedford after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Hubert and the late Edith (Allen) Gifford, she grew up in Dartmouth where she was a graduate of Dartmouth High School class of 1947. She later lived in New Bedford and settled in Fairhaven 40 years ago. Miss Gifford was a member of the South Primitive Methodist Church in New Bedford where she was President of the Board of Trustees.
Miss Gifford was a medical secretary for various area physicians including Dr. Walter O'Neil, Dr. Robert Kelleher and Dr. Douglas Fogg. She enjoyed making miniatures of various items with a group of her friends and gardening. She was the Treasurer of the Dartmouth High School Alumni Association.
She is survived by a sister, Grace A. Brook and her husband Robert of Dartmouth; two brothers, Arthur Gifford and his friend Muriel Pehrson of Dartmouth and Hubert Gifford, Jr. and his wife Meribah of Dartmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Information
Her funeral service will be Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at 9:30 AM in the Donaghy Funeral Home, 465 County Street, New Bedford followed by interment in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours are Monday, May 29, 2006 from 4-6 PM.
