Joseph A. Margaletta, 87, of Fairhaven, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in New Bedford. He was the husband for 30 years, of Jane E. (Livesley) Margaletta.
Born and raised in Fall River, son of the late Antonio and Concetta (D’Ambrosio) Margaletta, he lived in New Bedford prior to settling in Fairhaven 32 years ago. Joe attended Durfee High School, in Fall River, and then served in the Army during the Korean War. He had worked as a milkman for H.P. Hood, was the owner/operator of the Blue Dolphin Restaurant, in New Bedford, and was a machinist at Morse Twist Drill, in New Bedford, until it’s closing and also did masonry work on the side.
He was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed cruises to Bermuda, the company of his dog Bailey, and he was famous for his annual summer clam boils with family, friends and neighbors. Joe was a loving father and husband and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; five daughters, Diane M. Stevens, Carol A. Lopes and her husband Joseph, Gina M. Andrade and Joanne E. Bailey and her companion Amos Cabral all of New Bedford and Deborah J. Radzieski and her husband Daniel of Galveston, TX; two sons, Mark W. Bailey and his companion Jamie Hinchliffe of New Bedford and Scott L. Bailey of Fairhaven; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Joe was the last of six children.
Calling hours are Monday, from 4-8pm, in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven.
His funeral service will be Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at 10:00am, in the funeral home followed by interment, with honors in the River-Side Cemetery, Fairhaven.
