SWANSEA – John J. Hall, Jr., 80, of Swansea, passed away at his home Monday, March 23, 2009. Born in Fall River, the son of the late J. Joseph and Lillian (Martin) Hall, he was the husband of the late Barbara (Duffy) Hall.

Mr. Hall started working for the family business, Jim Martin’s Milk Company in Fall River. He then served his country with United States Army 155th Infantry Dixie Division during the Korean War. After the war, he worked for Buffington Florist and August Badwey & Sons. He then worked for twenty years in the facilities department at the Naval Exchange in Newport, retiring in 1994.

Mr. Hall was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Cathedral in Fall River. John enjoyed gardening, woodworking, photography and taking trips to Cape Cod.

He leaves a daughter, Kathleen Higginbottom and her husband Stephen of Warren, RI; three sons, John J. Hall, III, and his wife Colleen of Swansea, MA, James Hall and his companion Melissa Martel, both of Swansea, and Joseph Hall and his wife Lori of Rehoboth, MA; thirteen grandchildren: Amy, Abby, Stephen, Jr., Sarah, Alec, David, Rachael, Elyce, Tyler, Emily, Carleigh, Grady, and Kyla; a great-granddaughter, Cameron, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Dumaine, and Richard Hall.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held Friday, March 27, 2009, at 8:45AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME for FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Saint Mary’s Cathedral, 327 Spring St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial with MILITARY HONORS will follow the Mass in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
