View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SOMERSET – Walter R. Marie, Jr., 77, of County Street, Somerset, died Monday, August 18, 2008, at the Somerset Ridge Nursing Center in Somerset. Born in Lynn, MA, a son of the late Walter R. & Mabel (Richardson) Marie, he was the husband of Elaine (Gagnon) Marie.
A veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard, Mr. Marie was a Police Officer for the Town of Somerset for over twenty-five years before retiring in 1995. Prior to his becoming a full-time officer, he was a Reserve Police Officer for Somerset for fourteen years. A resident of Somerset since 1963, he lived previously in Lynn as well as Fall River.
He was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Somerset, as well as a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, the IBPO, and the Disabled American Legion Post, where he was a lifetime member. He enjoyed boating, fishing, boxing, antiquing, using a metal detector, using a computer, and most importantly, spending time with his family, especially enjoying special time at his cottage on Cape Cod.
Besides his wife, Mr. Marie is survived by his sons, Walter R., III, & Linda Marie of Enfield ,Connecticut, Brian R. Marie of Ethel, Washington; a daughter, Lynne & Peter Pelletier of Somerset. He was the grandfather of Michelle, Christine, Lisa , Matthew, Leah, Lauren, Erin, Brandon, Dylan, and the great-grandfather of Amber and Meadow. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard Marie, William Marie, and Elizabeth Kelley.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held Friday, August 22, 2008, at 8:00AM from THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 306 South St., Somerset. Burial will be in the Nathan Slade Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 21, from 5:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
