WESTPORT – Dr. Sat D. Khanna, P.E., 80, of Keith Drive, Westport, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at his residence. Born in T. T. Singh, India, a son of the late Gampat Rai Khanna & Lakshami (Malhotra) Khanna, he was the husband of Satya V. Sikka) Khanna, with whom he shared fifty-four years of marriage.

He was the Chancellor Professor Emeritus in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth for more than thirty-three years, before retiring seven years ago. Dr. Khanna was a resident of Westport for the past forty-three years, having come from India and Storrs, Connecticut. He was the chairperson for the professional engineers, held an hydraulic engineering degree, and was a sports enthusiast. He also served as vice chair of the Westport Conservation Commission and the Soils Board.

Dr. Khanna was a registered Professional Engineer and was a well known consultant to various engineering companies in the field of hydrology and hydraulics. He served as a vice president of the Providence-based Maguire Group. He was also an arbitration expert in the Boston area for a civil engineering company, and also served as a consultant for the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Nicholas and his wife Dr. Happy Khanna of La Canada Flintridge, California; a daughter, Reena Pasricha and her husband Dr. Pankaj Parischa of Coopertino, California; a brother, Jai Dev Khanna of Glasgow, Scotland; and a sister, Lila Malhotra of New Delhi, India. He was the grandfather of Kristin, Kevin, Tara, Trisha, and Neil; and the brother of the late Sheila Sikka.

Funeral Information

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 9, 2009, from 12:00 Noon to 1:30PM in THE HATHAWAY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
