NEW BEDFORD – Richard H. Parkinson, 72, of Dartmouth, died peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, due to complications from diabetes and Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the eldest son of the late Bertha (Scammons) Parkinson and the late Verdi Parkinson and the brother of Edmund V. Parkinson, also deceased. A graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School, Mr. Parkinson later served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Parkinson was retired from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, where he had worked as a stationary fireman. He also ran a carpentry business. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, woodworking and watching Tiger Woods. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Christine (Sleight) Parkinsion. He also leaves a son, Richard D. Parkinson of Dartmouth and a son, Steven M. Parkinson and his fiancé Tammy Moura.
