TAUNTON – Stanley J. Amora, 89, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, in Marian Manor Nursing Home, Taunton, after a few months of failing health. Born in Taunton, son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Priega) Amora, he was the husband of Ceceila H. (Felag) Amora, with whom he shared fifty-nine years of marriage.

He was educated in the Taunton Public Schools and Bristol Community College. He was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church. A U. S. Army veteran of WW II, serving with the rank of Staff Sergeant, he was wounded on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Europe. He received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star along with other medals received as a result of being in combat.

He was employed by the former Pierce Hardware Co. in Taunton and retired after twenty-eight years as a storekeeper and purchasing agent for the TMLP in Taunton. He enjoyed attending Red Sox games in Fenway Park, bowling, fishing and swimming. He especially enjoyed the time spent watching his daughter’s and grandchildren’s dance recitals, going to band concerts, attending Broadway Shows, dining with family and playing cards and spending time with his family in NH and their two Boston Terriers. He was member of the Maximillian Kolbe Guild, the Weir Senior Citizens, the David F. Adams VFW Post, the Disabled American Veterans and the Massachusetts State, County and Municipal Employees Association.

He was the beloved father of Patricia Pender and her husband Brian Pender and the loving grandfather of Bethany and Kevin Pender, all of Brookline, NH. He as the brother of Edna Kulpa and Joane Ducharme, both of Taunton, and the late Mary Bzdula, Bridget Amora, John Amora, Helen Guiley, and Cecelia Cichon. He was the brother-in-law of Wilfred Ducharme of Taunton and Bertha Felag of Somerset and the late Fred Kulpa, Walter Bzdula, Stephen Guiley, Fred Cichon, Frances Felag and Walter Felag. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral from THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Rosary Church at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday, March 16, from 4:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
