DOVER, NH – Nellie M. James, 87, formerly of Chappell Street, Seekonk, MA, died Sunday, August 24, 2008, in the St. Ann Nursing Home in Dover, NH. Born in Providence, RI, a daughter of the late Kirrill and Anna (Karchewska) Sharpitow, she was the wife of the late George B. James, Sr., who died in 1997.

She was a resident of Dover for the past six years, having previously lived in Seekonk and Gardner Terrace in Attleboro for many years, where she was a member of the Seekonk Common Tenants Association and a life member of the DAV. While in New Hampshire, she was a greeter at St. Ann Nursing Home and a member and a former vice president of its Tenants Association and a member of the Red Hat Society. In her professional life, Mrs. James worked as a principal clerk in the Taunton Welfare Office for many years before retiring in 1983.

Mrs. James leaves one son, George B. James, Jr., and his wife Susan M. James of Newmarket, NH; three daughters, Georgiana Betts and Mary Morriseau, both of North Attleboro, and Brenda Halsey of West Hampton, NY; one sister, Sophie Aiello of West Warwick, RI; two grandchildren, Jennifer L. James and Melissa M. and her husband Michael S. Woods; a sister-in-law, Virginia Lee of Seekonk; and three nieces, Paulette Hughes, Fay-Ellen Houlihan and Ginger Bray.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friend are invited to attend calling hours Wednesday, August 27, 2008, from 2:00-4:00PM in THE FOLEY-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 126 South Main St. (Route 152), in Attleboro. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM Wednesday afternoon in the funeral home. Burial in the family plot alongside her late husband in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, will be private.
