FALL RIVER – Ernest H. Hargreaves, Sr., of Fall River, died Sunday, August 31, 2008, at the Highlander Nursing Home in Fall River. Born in Huddersfield, England, the son of the late William and Lucy (Mellor) Hargreaves, he was the husband of H. Shirley (Little) Hargreaves, with whom he shared sixty-three years of married life. A 1938 graduate of BMC Durfee High School class, Mr. Hargreaves then graduated from the former Bradford Durfee Textile School in 1940. He worked for twenty-nine years for the former Browne & Sharpe Company in machine design. He served his country during WWII with the United States Army. Mr. Hargreaves subsequently taught technical design at Diman Regional Technical Vocational High School for seventeen years retiring in 1986. Mr. Hargreaves was a very active member at the former Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fall River. He served as a member of the parish’s Vestry, was a church warden, served as superintendent of the Sunday School, and was a choir member. He also served on the Vestry at the former Church of the Ascension (now the Church of the Holy Spirit) in Fall River where he was also was a choir member. He was involved with the DON Club, a couples club at Saint Mark’s, and the Double Ringers at the Church of the Ascension. Mr. Hargreaves was a member of the Fall River Lodge of Masons, the Retired Educators Association, was a Certified Track Official, and a past assistant Scout Master of Troop # 7. Besides his devoted wife, Mr. Hargreaves leaves a daughter, Shirley H. Hutchins of Deerfield, NH; a son, Ernest H. Hargreaves, Jr., of Concord, NH; four grandchildren, Willy, Jennifer, Nathan, and Beth. He was the father of the late Lucy Rae Hargreaves. Funeral InformationA funeral Mass with a Requiem Eucharist will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008, at 10:00AM in Church of the Holy Spirit (the former Church of the Ascension), 160 Rock St., Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery Fall River. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 3, from 6:00-8:00PM in the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River.
