DARTMOUTH – Attorney Winfred A. Eckenreiter, 56, a Fairhaven Selectman, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. He was the husband of Sandra A. (Mello) Eckenreiter. Born in Swaigern, Germany, the son of Martha (Kleinart) Reed of Paso Robles, CA, and the late Johann Eckenreiter, he moved to California at age five and settled in Fairhaven over twenty years ago. He served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam and graduated from Cal Poly Tech. Mr. Eckenreiter was serving his ninth year as a selectman in Fairhaven, where he was active on several other boards including the Planning Board, the Conservation Commission and the Board of Appeals. An avid runner, he ran in the New York Marathon and the Father’s Day Road Race in Fairhaven. Beside his wife and his mother, Mr. Eckenreiter is survived by two sons, Michael and Joshua, both of Fairhaven; two daughters, Rachel and Christina, both of Fairhaven; two brothers, Wolfgang H. Eckenreiter and his wife Tracie of New Braunfels, TX, and Jaimie Reed of Paso Robles, CA; a sister, Sigrid Franklin and her husband Daniel of Paso Robles, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
