NEW BEDFORD – Edith M. Jennings, 77, of New Bedford, died Saturday, September, 13, 2008, after a long illness, at the New Bedford Health Care Center.

Born in Acushnet, the daughter of the late Ernest B. and the late Eva E. (Johnson) Jennings, she was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and graduate of New Bedford High School Class of 1949 and a communicant of St. Lawrence Martyr Church.

Miss Jennings was a clerk at the Lumianski Insurance Agency from 1949-1981, and then at Paul and Dixon Insurance, until her retirement in 1993. She was the former treasurer of the British Society and a former member of the Old Dartmouth Historical Society, the New Bedford Preservation Society, the Friends of the Buttonwood Park Zoo and the Pair Point Cup Plate Collectors Society. She also volunteered at the Holy Family/Holy Name School.

She is survived by her most beloved and closest friend of over forty years, with whom she shared a home for many years, Miss Anna T. McGlynn of New Bedford; a sister, Beverly (Jennings) Clattenburg and her husband Donald of New Bedford; two nephews, Joshua and Nicholas Clattenburg, both of New Bedford; a cousin, R. Shirley Russo of Hamden, CT, and her extended family. Miss Jennings was predeceased by her other dear friend, the late Miss Patricia McGlynn.

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 9:00AM from THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Lawrence Martyr Church. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 17, from 4:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
