View Tribute and Sign Guestbook WOONSOCKET – Maurice J. Villiard, 91, of Manville Road, Woonsocket, died on Thursday, January 3, 2008, in the Philip Hulitar In-Patient Center in Providence. Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Joseph and Marie Rose (LaPlante) Villiard, he was the husband of the late Flora J. (LaCroix) Villiard. A resident of Woonsocket since 1951, he hailed from the Albion section of Lincoln.
Mr. Villiard worked as a loom fixer for various textile mills in the Woonsocket area for forty years, until 1971, and later worked for the Maintenance Department of the Woonsocket School Department for ten years, before retiring in 1981. A veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WW II, he was one of the oldest members of the Fairmont Post of the American Legion in Woonsocket.
Mr. Villiard leaves one son, Denis J. and his wife Joan M. Villiard of Mansfield, MA; one daughter, Paulette M. Villiard of Lincoln, RI; three sisters, Therese Forcier, Germaine Desrosiers and Yvette Joyal, all of Sorel, Canada; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Philippe, Robert and Cecile Villiard and Luciana Theroux.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held on Monday, January 7, 2008, at 9:00AM from THE MENARD FUNERAL HOME, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Agatha’s Church, 34 Joffre Avenue, Woonsocket, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend, and may visit with the family from 9:00 to 10:00AM in the funeral home prior to the Mass. Burial will follow the funeral Mass in the Family Lot in St. James Cemetery, Manville.
