View Tribute and Sign Guestbook DARTMOUTH – Albert Raymond “Ray” Barrow, 95, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pawtucket, RI, the son of Albert Foulkes Barrow and Mary Ellen (McCormick) Barrow, he was the husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Winward (Chadwick) Barrow, to whom he was married for sixty-five years.
Mr. Barrow worked in textile mills until the outbreak of WW II, serving for the duration of the War as a Technical Sergeant in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theatre. Ray and Betty met at the Quisett Mill, where they were employed.
From 1946 until 1969, he operated Barrow’s Texaco on Route 6 in Dartmouth. He served for ten years on the Dartmouth Board of Assessors until his retirement. He was also a member of the Dartmouth Planning Board during the 1960s. A past president of the Dartmouth Lions Club, Ray was involved in fundraising for eye research, his favorite charity.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by a son, Scott Raymond Barrow of Dartmouth, three grandchildren, a great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Arthur, Howard, Everett, Chester, and George Barrow. All six brothers served in the military during WW II.
