From 1946 until 1969, he operated Barrow’s Texaco on Route 6 in Dartmouth. He served for ten years on the Dartmouth Board of Assessors until his retirement. He was also a member of the Dartmouth Planning Board during the 1960s. A past president of the Dartmouth Lions Club, Ray was involved in fundraising for eye research, his favorite charity.
