View Tribute and Sign Guestbook SWANSEA – Joseph P. Kinnane, 82, of Metacomet Avenue, Swansea, died Monday, August 13, 2007, at his home. Born in Fall River, a son of the late John & Irene (Dillon) Kinnane, he was the husband of Helen (Pierce) Kinnane.
Mr. Kinnane was employed as a supervisor for the Thurston Manufacturing Co. of Providence, RI, for over thirty-seven years, before retiring in 1988. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII as Private First Class, designated as a telephone operator, and seeing action in the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign.
A resident of Swansea since 1959, coming from Fall River, he was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Fatima Church (now St. Francis of Assisi Church). Mr. Kinnane was a past member of the VFW Post in Swansea. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and a former member of the Musician’s Union, where he was a base player. He loved gardening.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Kinnane is survived by three sons, William J. Kinnane of Somerset, Stephen J. Kinnane of Dallas, Texas, and Brian J. Kinnane of Somerset. He was the grandfather of Brianna and Brandon Kinnane, and leaves several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Kinnane.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 9:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea. Burial with full Military Honors will be held in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00PM.
