(Jones) Gassner, 83, of Fairhaven, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008, surrounded by her family and longtime friend after a long illness, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Harold Gassner and the late John T. Connor.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Marvin E. and the late Angelina (Moss) Jones, Mrs. Gassner lived in New Bedford most of her life, until she moved to Kingston with her husband Harold. She most recently resided in Fairhaven, where she was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.
Mrs. Gassner was employed as a seamstress at Eastern Sportswear for more than thirty years until her retirement in 1987. Since retiring she enjoyed traveling the country with her husband and was an active D.A.V. member. She was an avid quilter and loved spending time with her sons, her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching her favourite soap operas.
Mrs. Gassner is survived by two sons, John P. Connor and his wife Kathi of Wareham and Michael K. Connor of New Bedford; three granddaughters, Beverly (Connor) Weber and her husband Larry of East Freetown, Kelli (Connor) Sousa and her husband David of South Dartmouth, and the late Angela Connor; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Jared Sousa of Dartmouth and Alexandria Rose and Chloe Weber of East Freetown; as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gassner was the sister of the late Henry, Leo and George Jones.
Funeral Information
Her funeral will be held Friday, October 17, 2008, at 10:00AM from THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 100 Spring St., Fairhaven. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 16, from 3:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
