TAUNTON / STOUGHTON – William J. Foley, 83, died Saturday, February 14, 2009, in Life Care of Raynham after a long illness. Formerly a resident of Stoughton, he had been a resident of Taunton for seven years. He was the husband of Carla (Fitzmaurice) Foley for fifty-four years and was the son of the late John and Mary (Manfra) Foley. Mr. Foley was born in Boston and grew up in West Roxbury and graduated from Mechanic Arts High School. He was a US Army veteran of WW II. A retired carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Local # 762, he was an avid baseball fan and pitched in the Boston Park League in the 1940’s, pitching back to back no-hitters. He loved to garden and was an enthusiastic upland game hunter, bred and campaigned his own Champion hunting dogs, and was the past president of the Mayflower German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Massachusetts. In addition to his wife, Mr. Foley is survived by his sons, James Foley of Brockton, Thomas Foley and his wife Claire of Dighton, and Robert Foley of Milford. He was the grandfather of William and Shawn and the brother of the late Anne Garvey, late of West Palm Beach, FL. Funeral InformationRelatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for his cremains in the Annunciation of the Lord Church, Somerset Ave. and First Streets, Taunton, Monday, February 23, 2009,at 10:00AM.
