Chester A. Salisbury
July 14, 2017
Chester A. Salisbury, 92, of Norton, formerly of Attleboro, Dennisport, and Jensen Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2017, at his home with his loving family at his side.
He was the beloved husband of Jean A. (Strahan) to whom he was wed for 69 years. He was born on February 17, 1925 and lived on the family homestead on Phillips Street in the Hebronville section of Attleboro, the son of the late Charles and Mary Salisbury. Chester attended local Attleboro schools. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a medic stationed in England, France, and Germany. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Chester began his courtship of Jean. They were married in 1948, lived in Attleboro until the birth of their second child, and then moved to South Attleboro.
Chester was a diligent worker to support his family which, at times, included working part time jobs, nights, or weekends. He worked at Attleboro businesses, Larson Tool & Stamping Co. and Leavens Manufacturing Co. During that time a few of his part time work was at such places as Jolly Cholly’s, in North Attleboro, and a small diner in Pawtucket, which he owned and operated with his brother Kenny. After retirement from Leavens, Chester worked at Eastwood Ho! Country Club, in Chatham, MA, and Sailfish Point Country Club, in Stuart, FL.
Chester really enjoyed spending time fishing, clamming, golfing, playing cards, and watching all the Boston sports teams. All Chet’s friends and family knew, whether he was in Dennisport or Jensen Beach, if it was 4 o’clock it was martini time and you could stop by and enjoy one with him.
He is survived by his son Chester E. of Lexington, KY, daughter Kathleen Egan and her husband Dennis of Franklin, MA, and Lynne Mendes and her husband Steve of So. Attleboro, MA. Chester had 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who gave him great pleasure and whom he loved to entertain; a son in law: Edward Sullivan of Stoughton.
He is predeceased by his daughter: Lorraine E. Sullivan, brothers Richard, Clinton, Robert, Lester, Kenneth, and Donald, and sisters Ruth Dufresne and Edith Figuerado. He is survived by brother Roland of East Providence.
