Gertrude B. Stanko

Gertrude B. Stanko, 94, of Somerset, MA, passed away on October 10, 2017, in the Clifton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the window of Walter S. Stanko. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Adelard St. Pierre and the late Helen (Sezwezyk) St. Pierre, she lived in Swansea for over fifty years of her life.
Gertrude worked as Assistant Treasurer for the former North Dighton Cooperative Bank; and was an active communicant of St. Louis de France Church, Swansea. There she served as treasurer for the former Ladies of St. Anne Sodality. With her husband she had been active with the Royal Travelers, and she was a local and state president for the Post Office Clerks Auxiliary. She will also be remembered for her avid reading, knitting and for how much she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas A. Stanko and his wife Maureen, and Paul W. Stanko; a daughter, Nancy A. Ring and her husband Donald of Greenville, RI; two grandchildren, Caroline Lawson and her husband Rob, and Brian Stanko with his wife Alissa; a great granddaughter, Brooklynn; and a niece, Kathleen Carr. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Parsons.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, Oct 14. Family will receive visitors 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, with a 10 am funeral mass to follow at St. Louis de France Church, Buffinton St., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be held privately.
