Harold C. Nagle, 88, of Park Street, Fall River died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Sarah Brayton Nursing Center after a long illness. He was husband of the late Ella (Ziccardi) Nagle.

Born in Fall River, a son of the late Michael Nagle and the late Bridget (Mahr) Nagle, he lived all of his life in the city having grown up in the Corky Row neighborhood and then the last 50 years on Park Street.

A graduate of Providence College, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Africa and Europe receiving a battlefield commission to final rank of Lieutenant.

Upon leaving the Army, he returned to found the Harold C. Nagle Insurance Company which he operated to the present day. He also became elected as a Massachusetts State Representative for 14 years until 1960. In that role he was instrumental in the highway legislation which brought Route 24 down into Fall River. He also introduced the Bill which established Horseneck Beach as state park land.

An involved communicate of St. Mary's Cathedral parish, he was also a founder and past president of the Corky Row Credit Union, a Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient from Providence College, and a member of the P.C. Friars Basketball Boosters.

He was also active with American Legion, Frank Wilcox Post 126, having served as commander of the post along with many other leadership roles at the local, state and national level.

He is survived by two sons Paul M. Nagle of Fall River, John H. Nagle and his wife Anne of Mansfield, and a daughter Carol Nagle and her husband Paul Gelzinis; he was the brother of Angela Robertson; grandfather of Gregg, Tim and Jenna Gelzinis and Sarah and Michael Nagle, and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Robert Nagle, the late Hillard Nagle and the late Clare Nagle.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held on Friday, February 24, 2006 from the Hathaway Home for Funerals, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River at 8AM with a funeral mass in St. Mary's Cathedral Church, Spring Street at 9AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours with a video photo album will be Thursday, February 23, 2006 from 4-8pm.
