Manuel P. ("Tiv") Cabral

SWANSEA – Manuel P. "Tiv" Cabral, of Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, died Sunday, January 25, 2009, at home. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Manuel & Antonia (Pallica) Cabral, he was the husband of Ida (Cabral) Cabral, with whom he had just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on January 9, 2009.

Mr. Cabral worked as a laborer for more than fifty years for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Works before retiring in 1983. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in WWII as a Corporal in the Field Artillery Battalion.

He made his home in Swansea for the past six months, having relocated from Fall River, where he lived all his life. He was a former parishioner of St. Anne’s Church in Fall River, a member of the Portuguese Civic League of Somerset, the American Legion Post 464 of Fall River, and a member of the Democratic Committee Ward 4 of Fall River.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, who liked to travel, and watch sports, especially the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronald J. Cabral of Swansea and his former wife Kim Hoa Nyguen of Texas; a daughter, Susan L. LePage & her husband Thomas, Sr., of Somerset; and three sisters, Florence Motta of Somerset, Antoinette Governo of Somerset, and Irene Howard of Providence, RI. He was the grandfather of Thomas & Melissa LePage Jr, Ronald LePage and his cherised friend Ann Borges, Ronald Cabral, Matthew Cabral and his fiancé Marie, Bethany Lopes, and Brian Moore. He was the great-grandfather of Brady LePage, Murphy LePage, Jackson LePage, and Alexis Beth Lopes. He was the brother of the late Joseph Cabral, Noel Cabral, and Maime Rego.

Funeral Information

His funeral will be held Thursday, January 29, 2009, at 9:00AM from THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Louis De France Church, 56 Buffington St., Swansea. Burial with full military honors will follow. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 28, from 4:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
