Peter F. Tardo, of Taunton, 76 years old, passed away peacefully, on Friday October 6, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
Peter is survived by his wife, Gail F. (Rico) Tardo and is the father of two daughters, Michelle Reed and her husband Mark of Bourne and Gina Tardo of Dighton. He is also survived by the light of his life, his two grandsons who brought him joy and happiness, as well as a few gray hairs, PFC Mitchell Tardo of Ft Myer, Arlington, VA and Drew Tardo of Dighton. He also leaves his sisters, Virginia Cochran and her husband Edward of Marshfield and Claudia Sommers and her husband Paul of Rockland, a brother Denis Tardo of Carver and he was also the brother of the late Ralph Tardo. Peter is also survived by several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Peter was the son of the late Peter A.V. and Maria (Ciampa) Tardo of South Boston.
Peter was born in Boston’s North End and grew up in “Southie” graduating from Gate of Heaven High School and furthering his education at Fisher Junior College and Providence College with a degree in Business Administration and received his Nursing Home Administrators Certification from Babson College.
Peter was the former Administrator of the Taunton Nursing Home and responsible for the expanding and updating the home from a 41 bed facility to 101 beds. He was a former elected member of the Taunton City Council and an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff serving at the pleasure of Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson. He assisted in the formation of the Weir Tigers Pop Warner Football Team. Peter served in the United States Marine Corp as a Corporal and was honorably discharged on October 7, 1963, “Semper Fi” once a Marine always a Marine. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, life member of the P.A.C. C., past Venerable of the Order of the Sons of Italy Giuseppe Garibaldi Lodge, in Taunton, past member of the B. O. P. E. Fraternal Order of the Elks, Fraternal Order of Eagles #4022, Bonita Springs, FL. Marine Corps League of Naples, FL and the Corvette Club of Naples, FL. Peter loved cruising in the 1993 Red Corvette, detailing it and entering his “Vet” in car shows winning several trophies for Best in Class. He loved telling jokes, his family and the Marine Corps.
The Tardo family would like to thank the Beacon Hospice of Fall River, especially Kristin Moreau, RN, for the wonderful care and comfort they provided to Peter during his illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral from the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., (Route 138 South), Taunton, on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at 8:30 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Annunciation of the Lord Church, First St,. Taunton, at 9:30 AM. Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours on Wednesday, from 4-8PM.
