Hazel B. (Aspden) Carey, 104, a resident of the Catholic Memorial Home, passed away quietly, on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017. She was the widow of Daniel A. Carey, Sr.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late James A. Aspden and the late Janet (Bates) Aspden, she had lived in Fall River, on Cambridge St., and later at Borden East, and also many years in Somerset. She was a graduate of the former Herrick Business School of Fall River and worked in secretarial and teletype positions for the United Merchants and Manufacturers up until her marriage. She was at one time a Girl Scout leader and for many years was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church, in Somerset. She was also a member of the former Sts. Peter and Paul Women’s Guild and a former member of the Borden East Seniors.

She is survived by a son, Daniel A. Carey, Jr. of Warwick; two daughters, Joan L. O’Neil of S. Yarmouth, MA and Elaine R. Braz of Somerset; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eunice Chace and Marjorie Bell; and two grandchildren.

 

Funeral Information

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov 7, 2017, at 9 am, from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, with a 10 am funeral mass, in St. Thomas More Church, Somerset. Burial to follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
