Eva G. Saulnier

NEW BEDFORD – Eva G. Saulnier, 83, of New Bedford, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at the Oaks Nursing Home in New Bedford. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Oliva and the late Victoria (Gauthier) Saulnier, she was a graduate of the Class of 1944 of New Bedford High School and lifelong resident of the city.

She was employed as a secretary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare until her retirement. She was a member of the Bierstadt Society, the Friends of the Library and enjoyed walking, reading and continuing education.

Ms. Saulnier is survived by her sister, Estelle St. Pierre of Lewiston, Maine; her daughter, Mary Burt of Maine; her grandchildren, Catherine Valek of Maine, Christine Barroso of New York and William Burt, Jr., of Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, Leyna Valek, Lauren Valek and Adam Valek, all of Maine, and Paul Barroso, Jr., and Alyssa Barroso, both of New York.

Eva enjoyed the cards, letters and pictures she received from her great-grandchildren and would proudly display them at the Oaks, where she was a longtime resident. She was also very fond of many of the staff at the Oaks who treated her with great kindness. She will be missed.

Her calling hours will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008, from 2:00-5:00PM in THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford.
