E. Virginia (Blackburn) Orzechowski, 98, of Swansea, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at her home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Roman M. Orzechowski.

Virginia was born in Swansea, the daughter of the late Arthur and Edith (Simcock) Blackburn. She was a graduate of Joseph Case High School, class of 1939. Mrs. Orzechowski worked as a cook at Case High School, Highland Manor, and the Stephen’s Home for many years retiring in the 1980’s. She was a longtime member of Christ Church, in Swansea. Virginia and Roman traveled extensively including many cross country trips in the motorhome. She had several creative talents which included making porcelain dolls and decorative painting. She also cherished the time she spent with her family and friends especially her grandchildren.

Survivors are two sons: Arthur R. Orzechowski and Paul D. Orzechowski  and his wife Susan all of Swansea; two grandchildren: Beth Ouellette and her husband Scott of Swansea; Stephen Orzechowski and his wife Amy of Swansea; five great grandchildren: Matthew, Tyler, Abby, Julia and Jack; two sisters: Ruth Valley and Barbara Smith both of Swansea; a brother: John Blackburn also of Swansea; along with several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Alma Chace and Robert Blackburn mother in law of the late Judith A. Orzechowski. 

Her family is deeply grateful to the exceptional caregivers who assisted them in caring for Virginia at home.

Funeral Information

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 10, 2017, from 11am to 12noon, in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton Street, Somerset, followed by a Mass with Requiem Eucharist at 12:30am, in Christ Church, 57 Main Street, Swansea.

Burial to follow in Christ Church Cemetery.
