FALL RIVER – Opal G. (Bates) Manning, 82, of Fall River, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2007, at the Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center in Fall River. Born in Pineland, Texas, the daughter of the late Albert F. and Ella Christina (Colvin) Bates, she was the wife of the late Arthur D. Manning. Mrs. Manning devoted her life to her family. In addition, she volunteered with the Grey Ladies an American Red Cross branch. She had volunteered at the military hospital in Bermuda, and was also a member of the civilian women’s club. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, her church, and entertaining family and friends. Mrs. Manning leaves two daughters, JoAnne Cassin of Fall River and Linda C. Henry of Victorville, California; two sons, James D. Anderson of Montgomery, Alabama, and Arthur D. Manning, Jr., of Arlington, Virginia; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and three great nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Pearl Palughi Bernice Bates, Ruby Glass, Lonnie F. Bates, and Fred C. Bates. Funeral InformationA memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2007, at 10:00AM in the HATHAWAY HOME for FUNERALS, 1813 Robeson St., Fall River.
