View Tribute and Sign Guestbook DARTMOUTH – Gerard A. Lamothe, 89, of New Bedford, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Brandon Woods in Dartmouth after a long illness. He was the husband of Jeannette B. (Pelletier) Lamothe, with whom he shared a sixty-three year marriage. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Ernest and the late Medora (Blier) Lamothe, he was a lifelong resident of the city and communicant of the former St. Anne’s Church, now Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
Mr. Lamothe served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and later worked as a stereotyper at the New Bedford Standard Times for twenty-eight years until his retirement. Mr. Lamothe was an avid reader of newspapers and loved history. He enjoyed working in his yard and on his home, walking and bike riding.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lamothe leaves a son, Ronald P. Lamothe and his wife Anita of Daytona, FL; a daughter, Judith A. Desroches-Christopher and her husband Daniel Christopher of Sarasota, FL; two grandsons, Gregory and Timothy Desroches; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lamothe was the brother of the late Ronald and Herve Lamothe and Lucille Oliveira.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at 9:00AM from THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St James Church, 233 County St., New Bedford at 10:00AM. Interment will follow the Mass in Sacred Heart Cemetery #2, New Bedford with military honours. Calling hours will be Monday, November 2, from 4:00-7:00PM in the funeral home.
