Ernest "Ernie" Alves

Ernest "Ernie" Alves, 63 of Fairhaven died September 18, 2006 at the New Bedford Healthcare Center surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was born in New Bedford, July 7, 1943 and resided in Fairhaven for the past 28 years with his wife of 37 years Bernice (Barboza) Alves.

Mr. Alves was employed as a cloth cutter in the garment industry in New Bedford until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed backyard cookouts with his family and friends. He also enjoyed vacations to Florida and Hawaii. During the fall he could be found cheering for his granddaughter at the Acushnet soccer fields. He was an avid sports fan.

Beside his wife he is survived by two sons, Derek F. Alves and his wife Rebecca and Jared S. Alves all of Acushnet; his beloved granddaughter, Sadie Mae Alves; a brother Abel Alves of Fairhaven; three sisters, Alice Andrade of Buzzards Bay, Anna Tavares and Natalie Beeksma both of Killeen, TX; his in-laws, Bill and Edna Barboza of New Bedford and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Information

His Memorial will be Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven with a service at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford.
