Alfred A. "Fred" Abbate

View Tribute and Sign Guestbook TAUNTON – Alfred A. "Fred" Abbate, 89, died in his home Saturday, December 27, 2008. Born in East Boston, the son of the late Joseph and Esterina (Petreccle) Abbate, he was the husband of the late Mary (Polvere) Abbate.
Mr. Abbate was educated in the Boston Public Schools. He had been a resident of Taunton for the past twenty-one years, prior to which he had made his residence in Norwood. He was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Church in Norwood while living there. A U. S. Army veteran of WW II, he was discharged with the rank of S/Sgt. in 1945.
He was self-employed prior to retirement and was especially known for helping his friends and neighbors at Rocky Knoll Estates.
Mr. Abbate was the father of Gayle Czekanski of Portland, ME, and Lisa Joyce and Steven Abbate, both of Taunton. He was the grandfather of eight and the great-grandfather of twelve. He was the beloved companion of Marjorie Corr of Taunton and the brother of Arthur Abbate of Lakeville and the uncle of several.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in the CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, Wednesday, December 31, at 9:00AM. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 30, from 5:00-8:00PM in the funeral home.
