Jane C. (Phillips) Lopes

Jane C. (Phillips) Lopes, 69, of Middleboro, passed away unexpectedly, after a brief illness,Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Morton Hospital, in Taunton. She was the fiancé of Neil D. Rosenthal of Middleboro.
Born and raised in Taunton, the daughter of the late Sheldon E. and Thelma K. (Peterson) Phillips, she settled in Middleboro over 40 years ago. She was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, in Taunton, where she was the former Senior Warden, sang in the choir and formerly was on the Vestry. Jane was a graduate of Taunton High School and Bridgewater State College.
She was the former Editor and reporter for 37 years for the Middleboro Gazette until her retirement two years ago. Jane was the Chairman of the Middleboro Historical Commission, Chairman of the Community Preservation Commission, Past President of the Middleboro Rotary Club, a member of the Massachusetts Archeological Society, Past President of the New England Press Association as well as many other organizations.
Jane is survived by her fiancé Neil; two sons, Jonathan D. Souza and his wife Kris of Troutdale, Oregon and Michael A. Lopes of Arlington, VA; two daughters, Jennifer McMahan and her husband Vince of Ft. Washington, MD and Melissa Lopes and her fiancé Nick Graves of Alexandria VA; two grandchildren, Daniel Souza and Violet McMahan; a sister, Nanci Phillips of North Brookfield; a nephew, Matthew Faria and his wife Serena and their daughter, Natalie; a niece, Jillian Phillips and her daughter, Macy and the late Emelia.
Calling hours are Friday, from 4-8pm, in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton.
Her funeral will be Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 1:30pm, in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 111 High St., Taunton, MA 02780. Interment will follow in Nemasket Hill Cemetery, Middleboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jane's name, to the church.
