View Tribute and Sign Guestbook FALL RIVER – Martha A. (Pierce) Vaz, 64, of Weaver St., Fall River, died on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Howard E. & Ruth A. (Rothwell) Pierce, she was the wife of Arthur Vaz.
Mrs. Vaz was a Licensed Practical Nurse for more than forty-four years, working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, at the Paul A. Dever State School, and at various other agencies over her professional career.
A resident of Fall River for the most recent seven years, she was a former resident of Westport and Somerset, where she lived most of her life. She was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Somerset, who enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and making crafts. She was also an avid New England Patriots fan.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Mark Labreche of Somerset; a daughter, Lori A. (Labreche) Jackson of Middletown; two brothers, Richard H. Pierce of Richmond, Indiana, and David L. Pierce of Pensacola, Florida; five grandchildren, Lexi, Jacob, Michael Labreche, Victoria Sarmento, and Jeremy Jackson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Information
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2008, at 10:00AM in THE HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, with burial to follow in Nathan Slade Cemetery in Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00PM.
