View Tribute and Sign Guestbook TAUNTON / CONCORD, NH – Alfred Clayton Wilbur, 96, died suddenly, in the Regional Hospital, Franklin, NH. Born in Taunton, son of the late Clayton and Ruth (Nichols) Wilbur, he was a 1932 graduate of Taunton High School and attended the University of Vermont and matriculated to Boston University where he graduated in 1937. He served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy during WW ll.
Mr. Wilbur served as treasurer of the family shoe store, Dean Brothers, Inc., on the Taunton Green from 1957 until it was sold in June, 1985, and also owned the Henry F. Bailey Insurance Agency. Alfred was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Chamber of Commerce, both in Taunton. His love of gardening, the outdoors and his dear dog Buffy were well known. In later years he and his wife, Grace (Heckle) Wilbur moved to Concord, NH, to be near his children.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Grace, of NH, and his three sons, Hugh of New Hampton, NH, Ronald and his wife Donna of Concord, NH, and Alfred, Jr., and his wife Barbara of Amherst, MA. He was the grandfather of six, Susan Wilbur of Stratham, NH, Susan Glass of Eagle, CO, Nicholas Wilbur of Mercersburg, PA, Alisha Mathers of Southington, CT, Hillary Ferro of Shutesburg, MA, Shannon Wilbur of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Whitney Wilbur of Boston. He was the great-grandfather of four and the brother of Frances Lincoln of GA and the late Adelaide Kimball and Frederick Wilbur, as well as the uncle of several.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in THE CRAPO-HATHAWAY FUNERAL HOME, 350 Somerset Ave. (Route 138 South), Taunton, MA, Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Noontime. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Mayflower Hill Cemetery.
