Ret. Sergeant Sammy L. Durden

Ret. Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Sammy L. Durden, 64, of Taunton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Morton Hospital. He was the husband of twenty-two years to Edna V. Ellis- Durden.
Sammy was born in Louisville, Georgia, the son of the late M.B. and Willie Lewis (Smith) Durden. Mr. Durden served his country with the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps. Sammy worked for the Massachusetts State Police for over thirty years retiring as a Sergeant at the Dartmouth Barracks. He enjoyed working in his yard, being outdoors and spending time with his dogs Sam and Yaya.
Survivors besides his wife are two daughters: Gjennetta Durden of Dorchester, MA and Regina Lee of Malden and ; three step daughters: Patricia, Delcie and Anita and a step son: Reginald; four grandchildren;three sisters: Bertha Roberson, Helen Durden both of Avera, GA, and Hester Foley of Atlanta, GA ; two brothers: Willie Durden of Mattapan and Grady Durden of Roxbury; along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017, from 4-6pm, in the Crapo-Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave., Taunton, followed by a Funeral Service on Friday, April 21, 2017, at 10am, in the Baptist Church of All Nations, 61 Winthrop Street, Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend directly to the church, burial to follow with Military Honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne.
