Armand A. Vigeant, 94, longtime resident of Somerset, passed away at home on Friday, June 9, 2017. He was the loving husband of Gertrude (Trepanier) Vigeant, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.
Armand was born in Fall River and was a son of the late David E. and Marie (LaFleur) Vigeant.
Armand was employed as a meat cutter for A&P for over 35 years until his retirement and was a proud US Navy veteran of both World War II and Korea, having served as one of the original crewmen of the Battleship USS Massachusetts. He enjoyed making puzzles and birdhouses and was an avid bird watcher. Armand’s life passion was the USS Massachusetts. In addition to serving aboard the ship, Armand served as a guide and speaker for overnight Boy Scout trips, after her placement at Battleship Cove for over 45 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, David L. Vigeant and his wife Jacqueline of South Carolina; daughters, Robin L. Mulligan of Somerset and Cynthia A. Cupp and her husband John of Virginia; brother, Ernest Vigeant of CT; sisters, Jeannette O’Brien of Fall River and Armande Vigeant of Somerset; grandchildren, Megan E. Tavares and her husband Craig and Casey A. Mulligan; beloved great grandson, Conner B. Tavares and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Rev. Wilfred Vigeant, Bro. David Vigeant, Mariah Huggard, Irene Poore and Beatrice Dawson.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 9am, from the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, from 4-7pm, in the funeral home.
