View Tribute and Sign Guestbook FALL RIVER – Ernest J. Jean, 82, of Courtney St., Fall River , died Monday, April 16, 2007, at the Forest Farm Healthcare Center Middletown. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Wilfred & Katherine (Ashworth) Jean, he was the husband of Lillian M. (Ouellette) Jean.
Mr. Jean was employed as a puritan stitcher for the former U. S. Luggage in Fall River for ten years, and also served as Executive Vice President of the International Leather & Plastic Workers Union for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1992. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving as Private on a Tank Crew where he was a Gunner.
He was a Fall River resident for the last few years, coming from Somerset where he lived on Thomas Drive since 1971, having relocated from Swansea, and also Fall River previously. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church, Somerset.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, John A. Jean of Somerset; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine & Mark Kellner of Portsmouth, RI. He is also survived by two brothers, Normand Jean of Tiverton RI, and Louis Jean of Fall River; two grandsons, Stephen Jean and James Jean; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Wilfred Jean.
Funeral Information
His funeral will be held Friday, April 20, 2007, at 9:00AM from the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St Patrick’s Church, 306 South St., Somerset. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00PM.
