View Tribute and Sign Guestbook Melchor F. Festin, 59, of Cottonwood Lane, Attleboro, died Friday, December 9, 2005 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of 28 years of Luzviminda (Fiecas) Festin. They were married on Dec. 24, 1977 in the Philippines.
Born on January 6, 1946, in Banton, Philippines, he was a son of the late Silvestre and Trinidad (Fabonan) Festin. His father was the former mayor of Banton, Philippines. He was raised and educated in the Philippines. He was a graduate of the Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. He worked as a lab technician for several years at the Romblon Provincial Hospital in the Philippines.
Mr. Festin came to the United States in 1982 with his family and lived in Warm Springs Georgia for 6 years. He was a resident of Attleboro since 1988. He worked as a lab technician at Sturdy Hospital for 6 years.
He was a member of KASAMA, a fraternal organization of Philippine-Americans. He was a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and photography. Mr. Festin took much satisfaction out of his carpentry hobby. He built many pieces of furniture and decorative items. He was known for always being engaged in various home improvement projects.
One of Melchor's proudest moments came when he received his U.S. citizenship. He was an American who truly loved his country, and took special pride in his sons service to our country.
Melchor will be remembered most for being a loving husband, and devoted father and brother.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Staff Sgt. Silver Don Festin, currently on active duty in Iraq, Melchor F. Festin, Jr., of Attleboro, and Mark Festin, of Attleboro. A daughter, Lucille “Holly” Festin, of Attleboro. Three brothers, Col. Niceto Fesitn (Ret. Philippine Army) of the Philippines, Adolfo Festin, of Washington State, and Norval Festin, of the Philippines. A sister, Patrocinio Ferrera, the current mayor of Banton, Philippines. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the United States, Canada, and the Philippines.
Funeral Information
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10:00 am from the Cook-Hathaway Funeral Home, 160 Park St., (Rte. 118), Attleboro, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. John the Evangelist Church, North Main St., (Rte. 152), Attleboro. Burial will follow in North Purchase Cemetery, North Main St., (Rte. 152), Attleboro.
Calling hours will be Thursday, December 15, 2005 from 7:00-9:00 pm, and Friday December 16, 2005 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm.
