SOMERSET – Virginia L. (Simcock) Jackson, 88, of Grandview Avenue in Somerset, died Thursday, September 4, 2008, at the Sarah S Brayton Nursing Home in Fall River. Born in Somerset, a daughter of the late Ernest A. & Louise (Blake) Simcock, she was the wife of the late Dovard C. Jackson.

Mrs. Jackson was a bookkeeper and a columnist and newspaperwoman for The Spectator Newspaper in Somerset for many years, working up until a few weeks ago . A Somerset resident all her life, she was a member of the Church of Our Saviour (Episcopal). She was also a USO Member, a Bible School Teacher at the Friends Meeting House, a member of the former Federated Church, a Girl Scout Leader for many years, and involved with Cub Scouts for many years. She was a member of the Somerset Historical Society and the Historical Commission. She was also active with the Mariners.

Mrs. Jackson was the mother and mother-in-law of Robert & Mary (Rankin) Jackson, MD, of Miami, Florida, and Tamar & John Kitzmiller of Norwich, Vermont. She was the grandmother of Nathaniel Jackson, Emily Jackson, William Kitzmiller, and Hannah Kitzmiller.

Funeral Information

A GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be held MONDAY, September 8, 2008, at 1:00PM in the Nathan Slade Cemetery, Prospect St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. A memorial service, to be scheduled at a later date, will be announced. All arrangements are under the direction of the HATHAWAY COMMUNITY HOME FOR FUNERALS, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA 02726.
