View Tribute and Sign Guestbook FAIRHAVEN – Joan A. (Carney) Alvheim, 72, of Fairhaven, died Monday, May 12, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was the wife of Arne K. Alvheim, to whom she was married forty-eight years.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Shaun and the late Marie Jeannette (Fournier) Carney, she settled in Fairhaven about fifty-eight years ago. Mrs. Alvheim was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
A home maker, Mrs. Alvheim enjoyed reading, travel and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Alvheim is survived by a son, Arne P. Alvheim of Fairhaven; three daughters, Ilya Broughton and her husband James of Dartmouth, Karoline Crawford of Fairhaven, and Karla Green and her husband Robert of Punta Gorda, FL; a brother, Shaun Carney of Marion; four grandchildren, Michael Crawford and his wife Leah of Mattapoisett, Jacob and Aaron Broughton of Dartmouth, and Aidan Deconinck of Fairhaven; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Alvheim was the sister of the late Brian Carney and Brenna Mello.
Funeral Information
Her funeral service will be held Friday, May 16, 2008, at 10:00AM in THE FAIRHAVEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, followed by interment in River-Side Cemetery, Fairhaven.
